Job Summary
The accountabilities for this position are two-fold. The incumbent is expected to perform all operations tasks involving the receipt, the storage and the shipping of grain. The incumbent also performs scheduled, preventive and emergency maintenance work within the capabilities of the grain facility in order to keep the plant running at peak efficiency. The incumbent may also act as a crewleader during harvest season.
Job Parameters
This position reports to the Plant Superintendent together with Operations/ Maintenance Workers I, II and IV. Due to the size of the operation and the seasonality of the work, the Operations/Maintenance Worker frequently has changes in duties and must be capable of performing both operations and maintenance tasks. The incumbent is required to possess the particular ability to:
1. Perform all tasks associated with inbound grain receipts, including:
- the inspection and grading of grain;
- efficient operation of the truck and wagon scales and dump;
- the proper routing of grain from the dumps to the assigned grain bin; - traffic control;
- unloading of inbound rail cars.
2. Perform all tasks associated with outbound grain flow, including:
- assisting with train loading as an engine operator, switchman, loader or tunnelman;
- completing all proper documentation regarding train loading.
3. Operate the dryers efficiently and transfer grain to insure grain quality in the elevator.
4. Perform all preventive, scheduled and emergency mechanical maintenance tasks associated with the maintenance and upkeep of the facility, including minor job layout with minimum supervision. This may include:
- recordkeeping;
- equipment and machinery checks, making recommendations as necessary;
- emergency maintenance and repair such as: replacing bearings, replacing motors, installing and splicing conveyor belts, air cylinders and lines.
5. Engage in clean-up work and housekeeping duties.
6. Be familiar with and apply all safety rules and procedures.
7. Work in all areas of the plant and change shifts as necessary.
8. Lead assigned crew members in completing assigned tasks during peak activity periods.
Human Relations
Due to close daily contact with customers and fellow crew members and to the high standard of customer service excellence established by the Grain Division, this position requires a high degree of human relations skills and the ability to cooperate as a team member.
Instructions Received
Instructions are in the form of assignments to jobs, which are then performed according to established rules and work patterns.
The incumbent works with a team or alone with at least daily review by the Plant Superintendent. Occasionally, the incumbent may lead a few crewmembers in completing assigned jobs during peak activity periods.
Working Conditions
The incumbent is frequently exposed to cold, heat, dust, dirt and noise. The incumbent must be able to lift 50-100 pounds, frequently; and must be capable of working at heights and be aware of the potential danger of slipping.
Background
The incumbent should have a minimum of one year of experience in a grain elevator or the equivalent in education and experience. Experience should be in an operations or maintenance setting, demonstrating a mechanical aptitude. The abilities to communicate both verbally and in written form are most helpful.
Principal Accountabilities
The following accountabilities are to be carried out in a manner consistent with the spirit and philosophy outlined in The Andersons' Statement of Principles:
1. Perform all operations tasks associated with inbound grain flow.
2. Operate dryers efficiently and transfer grain by conveyor.
3. Perform all operations tasks associated with outbound grain flow.
4. Perform all mechanical maintenance tasks to keep the plant running at peak efficiency
5. Provide a high standard of customer service excellence throughout the operation.
6. Operate various types of equipment and tools, such as front-end loader, sweep auger, acetylene torch, arc welder, weed mower, basic hand tools, etc.
7. Assist in the preparation of written reports for the Superintendent and/or Operations Worker I.
8. As required, lead assigned crew in completing assigned tasks.
9. Consistently employ good safety practice, adhering to the philosophies and procedures of the Company.
10. Display an attitude and disposition, which reflect pride in the job, indicate a willingness to work within the framework of the company policy and motivate subordinates, if assigned, to function as a team in the performance of duties.
11. Display a spirit of cooperation with co-workers and a willingness to accept direction from the Supervisor.
12. Develop an understanding of the document A Statement of Principles so that all accountabilities are carried out in a manner consistent with the spirit and philosophy contained therein.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
